Points of Pride

  • Diggs Gallery identified as one of the Top 10 African-American galleries in the nation and one of the nation’s best regional facilities for contemporary African art.

  • Choir performs nationally and internationally; has recorded seven compact discs with one nominated in 2010 for five Grammy awards.

  • The only four-year public university and only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the nation that offers a bachelor of science degree program in motorsports management.

  • Departments of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy have 100% licensure board pass rates.

  • Department of Rehabilitation Counseling is only program of its type in the nation that provides services to the deaf and hard of hearing.

  • Division of Nursing is third-largest producer of traditional nurses in North Carolina; more than 90% of students pass licensure examination the first time.

  • Division of Nursing partners with Duke University School of Nursing in a Bridge to the Doctorate program, designed to enhance minority nurse scientists; one of only three such programs in the nation.

  • Students can join one of 16 Greek organizations and 100-plus student organizations.

  • Students can choose from seven themed-housing options, including Living Arts, First Year Residential Experience, Freshman Honors, Upperclass Honors, Women in Science and Health, Women Involved in Leadership Development, and Live to Serve.

  • WSSU claimed 5 CIAA Championships in 2015-16 (in the sports of women’s cross country, volleyball, football women's indoor track and softball, 20 since the return to the CIAA in 2010.

  • Rams student-athletes and staff have amassed over 7,000 hours of community service hours over the past two years.
